1 The Presidential Award of Honor recipients were celebrated during a luncheon at Corporate Headquarters attended by APC executives, friends and family. Event photos by Christopher Jones SAFETY Thanks to three Alabama Power employees, four people across the state are carrying on with their lives. During a luncheon in January honoring their heroics, Billy Logan, Transformer Shop apprentice, General Services Complex; Tim McAndrews, distribution specialist, Hillcrest Office; and Patrick Pledger, team leader at Plant Barry, were presented the Presidential Award of Honor. "It is our privilege to honor these men for their brave actions that exemplify the highest values of Alabama Power," said CEO Mark Crosswhite. "We're grateful to have employees who will go to the aid of others in difficult circumstances and do what is necessary to help friends and strangers." The Presidential Award of Honor is Alabama Power's highest tribute. The award recognizes employees who take extraordinary measures to save or sustain the life of another person. On June 1, 2018, Logan was on vacation with his family in Panama City, where the weather had created rough and dangerous water conditions. Logan saw an elderly man get knocked down multiple times by waves. Logan ran to help him get to safety. That same aernoon, a young man fell off a Jet Ski in the rough water, lost his life jacket and had trouble geing to shore. Logan grabbed a float and swam out to retrieve the life jacket and bring the man safely back to shore. On March 7, 2018, McAndrews was driving home from work when he witnessed a wreck involving an elderly woman. The woman's car began rolling toward potential danger. McAndrews got out of his car, caught up with the woman's vehicle and stopped it before it hit oncoming traffic and other objects. He stayed with the woman until an ambulance arrived. On Oct. 7, 2017, Pledger was helping prepare food during a church event. A woman began choking on the food, and Pledger performed the Heimlich maneuver, enabling her to breathe. "It's easy to keep safety first on the job but having the initiative and knowledge to jump into action at any moment takes true courage," said Sco Moore, senior vice president of Power Delivery.
