Postcards to Powergrams 48 Vice President of Corporate Real Estate Ashley Robine was presented the 2019 Auburn Alumni Association's Young Alumni Achievement Award. The annual honor recognizes extraordinary accomplishments by members of the Auburn family who are 40 or younger. Robine previously received Auburn's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering 2018 Young Alumni Award. Eight employees at Alabama Power Corporate Headquarters received 2018 Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Technology Transfer Awards for their collaborative projects. SCS Environmental Policy and Engagement Principal Research Scientist Donna Hill received an Advisor Impact Award. Also honored were Transmission and Distribution R&D Manager Jason Autrey; Transmission Equipment and Standards Principal Engineer Elizabeth Bray; Power Delivery Engineering Services Engineer James Dorsten; Research and Development Principal Engineer Will Hobbs; Transmission Equipment and Standards Equipment Services Supervisor Neil Hutchins; Research and Development Engineer Kuni Scissum; and Environmental Policy and Engagement Research Specialist Principal Justin Walters. The Western Division Chapter of the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) took part in a variety of projects during March and April. On March 13, the chapter hosted a blood drive at the Tuscaloosa Office benefiting LifeSouth, a nonprofit community blood bank serving more than 100 hospitals in Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Members filled 50 hygiene packs and distributed them to the Walker County Coalition for the Homeless. Additionally, the chapter took part in a party for World Down Syndrome Day on March 21 and the 2019 Cure SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) Alabama Walk-n-Roll at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park on March 30. The Jasper sub-area of Western Division APSO participated in Coal Fest in Parrish on April 6, the Safe Kids Expo on April 13 and the ARC of Walker County Color Run on April 27. Finally, Western Division APSO South sub- area members will watch over Westside Elementary students during lunch, allowing teachers to enjoy mealtime on their own. West Jefferson Office Customer Service Representative Jazmine Paon received a thank-you card from a customer for assisting her when she dropped into the office to pay her bill. Thumbs Up! Retired Corporate Headquarters 44kV Planning Team Leader Merle Smith and his wife, Della Fancher, hiked a portion of the Great Wall near Beijing during their 12-day tour of China.
