We see that literally at Southeast Kiwi Farming Cooperative near Lake Martin. e farm, with its 37,000 thriving kiwi vines, is the only kiwi orchard east of the Rockies and the only one in the United States growing golden kiwi fruit. Clint Wall's story of how he got from a horticulture student at Auburn to New Zealand and back to Lake Martin is remarkable and one most people are surprised to hear is happening in Alabama. Growth of another kind is happening on Lay and Neely Henry lakes. ere, a program to install osprey nest platforms atop channel and hazard markers continues to soar. ree years aer the platforms were installed, each has an active osprey nest. Ospreys are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Finally, there is growth with booming business in Centre, where F.C. Weiss Pub & Eatery leads a trend of several restaurants looking to capitalize from Weiss Lake tourism. Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director ereasa Hulgan said the lake is the county's No. 1 attraction and these businesses are helping grow the community while providing services visitors need.
