48 Birmingham Division local office employees reached a milestone in September: $1 million in sales since the beginning of the year. Customer service representatives, specialists and managers have been working hard making sales by promoting company products and services as part of the division's 212 Extra Degree Initiative. The initiative is based on the premise that water is hot at 211 degrees and boils at 212 degrees. It's that extra degree that makes the difference. "I am excited that our team accepted the challenge of going the extra degree and are seeing concrete results by achieving $1 million in sales," said Customer Operations Senior Vice President Jonathan Porter. "I am so proud to serve our customers and our communities with such a great group of people." The Barry Chapter of the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) need $43,295 for charities through its E.R. Covington Golf Tournament in August. That's the most raised in the history of the 31-year event. The competition drew 331 golfers, compared to 244 players in 2018. Barry APSO members put aside $25,000 to purchase Christmas gis for 100 children sponsored by the Mobile County Department of Human Resources. "There's nothing worse than not having anything under the Christmas tree, and our members and vendors go all out to help," said Cherie Gatlin, APSO project leader for the tournament and Plant Barry administrative support specialist. Barry APSO sponsors an annual Contributions Breakfast in Mobile for 12 nonprofits, then shops for Home of Grace, Mulherin Home, Ronald McDonald House and St. Mary's Home. Earnings from Southeast Energizers' annual charitable auctions allowed members to donate $9,250 to worthy nonprofit groups this past summer. In August, Southeast Energizers gave donations of between $250 and $1,500 to the Coffee County Training Center, Communities of Transformation, Harvest Time Ministries, House of Ruth, Landmark Park, Project Lifesaver International-Alabama Division, Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center, Valley Haven School and Vivian B. Adams School. Bidders at the auctions competed for pint-size jars of honey and syrup, as well as cakes, candies and handcraed wooden items. Energizers includes retiree volunteers from Alabama Power, Southern Company Services and Southern Nuclear in Alabama. Southern Division's LaClaire Douglass and Kandace Browder founded the She Succeeds initiative to help women form relationships across departments, enhance their skill sets and encourage support of one another while building their careers. Greenville Engineering Supervisor Douglass said that, aer receiving feedback, she realized many women seek career development opportunities. About 60 female employees met in Montgomery on Sept. 25 for the program kickoff. She Succeeds will offer professional development sessions and sessions that center on wellness and work-life balance. Thumbs Up! Energizers Southeast chapter donated total of $9,250 to nonprofit groups.
