Alabama Power and its Auburn-area employees were recognized by United Way of Lee County for raising $22,927. United Way of Lee County Executive Director Becky Benton (fourth from le), celebrated by presenting a plaque to APC campaign leaders, including Tracy Tatum, Porshia Williams, Von Colburn, Melinda Emfinger, Cory Hanks, Tabatha White, Sebastian Dixon, Deno Daigre, Wade Davis, Rod Cater, Craig Sanders and Nate Daniels. Alabama Power received the Corporate Partner of the Year Award from United Way of Chaahoochee Valley at the campaign wrap-up celebration in Phenix City. The Phenix City Office was among the top contributors, with 85 employee participation – 30% of whom pledged to give at the fair share level. Phenix City employees raised $19,170, an increase of more than $4,000 from last year. Phenix City Office Supervisor Lyndee Williams, who headed this year's campaign, accepted the award on the company's behalf. Julie Jennings, Valley/Langdale, and Mallory Herring, Southeast Division Office, helped the Chambers County Development Authority hosted an etiquee luncheon for Fairfax Elementary School fih graders. The event at a church in Valley was aimed at teaching the students the rules of proper etiquee. Jennings and Herring helped set up tables, serve so drinks and reinforce etiquee tips among the students. Birmingham Division Vice President Tony Smoke has been named to the board of directors for the Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame. A 1984 electrical engineering graduate of Auburn University, Smoke joins the 20-member HOF board to determine people, companies and projects that merit inclusion. Since 1989, the hall has recognized nearly 200 people, 45 projects and 32 firms for induction. Thumbs Up!
