Water whys e year 2020 will likely go down in history as one of the most challenging, unpredictable and relentless periods of our lives. Each of us has felt deeply the impact of the year's events, and it will undoubtedly affect us for years to come. Despite the weight of the adversity we have faced during this time, we have met these challenges with endurance and innovation, changing the way we live, work and play while continuing to serve our communities and make a positive and lasting impact on our beautiful state. We have gone outside – perhaps even more than before – to explore and appreciate all our state has to offer. e year has not lacked in compelling stories to tell, adventures to take or ways to connect with our environment. In this issue, we reflect on the highlights of the year. We started the year partnering with B.A.S.S. and volunteers from the Union Sportsmen's Alliance to break ground on a new pavilion at Lewis Smith Lake Dam Boat Ramp in Walker County, and later a new way to observe the spillways at Martin Dam. We celebrated the return of fish and mollusks to the original Coosa River channel, and searched for elusive mussels along the Tallapoosa River. We saw our pollinator plots attract ecosystem-boosting butterflies and hummingbirds, and worked with our public and private wildlife and conservation agencies to bring a species of bird off the USFWF endangered list. In one of our most difficult times, we continued to work diligently for the betterment of our home state for years to come. is year has given us the opportunity to do things differently, and as it comes to a close, we've come to realize it is time to look ahead and take a fresh approach to telling our stories. We look forward to continuing to share the lake content you love through our digital platforms in 2021. — Jessica Nissenbaum 2 | 2020
