Thumbs Up! Powergrams is published biweekly by Alabama Power for its employees, retirees and friends. Please report address changes by calling the editor. The Mobile Division Network Crew and Market Specialist Rudd Schultze recently received a thank-you letter from the U.S. Coast Guard. The Network Crew and Marketing worked to repair a fuse on the Coast Guard's primary metering system. In the letter, a Coast Guard officer thanked Alabama Power for quickly restoring power. "The crew was amazing," the letter stated. Dustin Seales, Leeds Office, received a special thank you from a customer for Seales' help in a difficult situation. Seales contacted the customer to collect an unpaid bill. In a later call to Leeds Office Manager Edna Felton, the customer commended Seales for being "helpful, pleasant, accommodating and thorough." The customer added, "You really have a good CSR in your office." The Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) Magic City team raised more than $11,000 for the Alabama Kidney Foundation's annual walk on May 4 in Homewood. Team captains Edna Weaver, Bridgett Pippin, Leslie Short and Marie Stewart, all of the Transmission department, rallied behind their work group to raise more than $10,000 of the total amount during the 12 weeks before the walk. Team APSO held several contests throughout the campaign, including a "Change Champions" challenge where Transmission employees competed to raise funds. Prizes for the contests included a Kindle Fire electronic reader, VISA gift cards and an ice cream social. Prize winners were Barbara Rice and Suzanne Saxon, both of Corporate Headquarters, and Alan DeMarco, Service Building – 12th Street. The Alabama Kidney Foundation provides financial assistance, education and support services for more than 7,000 patients each year. During a phone call, customer Mary Goodwin told Lindsey Lowrimore, Appliance Service Call Center, that she was unable to breathe and asked her to call 911. After Lowrimore transferred Goodwin to a 911 dispatcher, an ambulance was sent to her home. Lowrimore didn't stop there. In a call to check on Goodwin's status, Lowrimore learned her customer had been unable to breathe because her oxygen tank was unplugged. Goodwin thanked Lowrimore for helping her and then calling back to check on her health. Assistant editors: Donna Cope and Carla Davis Photo editor: Bill Snow Larry M.
