Contents COMMUNITY Birmingham will host the world in 2022 when the World Games come to town. Alabama Power's Jonathan Porter is chairman of the board of directors 2022 World Games Foundation and is seeking volunteers for the 11-day competition. Page 1 INNOVATION "Powered By You" is more than just a catchphrase: It's a campaign to change the way employees think about customer service. Page 4 INNOVATION Alabama Power has introduced new methods of communicating with customers, including an interactive outage map and personalized alerts. Page 5 ENVIRONMENT Alabama Power employees are on the front lines helping protect wildlife and the natural world. Among the many animals aided by the company are endangered birds and bats. Page 6 COMMUNITY When unforeseen circumstances place people in dire situations, many are able to pay their heating and cooling bills through the ongoing Project SHARE. Since 1983, SHARE has provided nearly $40 million in energy assistance to 385,000 families in Alabama. Page 10 EDUCATION Landon Womack has been awarded a four-year college scholarship from the Alabama Power Foundation. The Collinsville High School standout will aend the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Page 11 EDUCATION Abbey Mauldin has been awarded a two-year college scholarship from the Alabama Power Foundation. The Oakman High School standout will aend Bevill State Community College. Page 12 EDUCATION Twenty-two exceptional students have been awarded merit-based scholarships from the Alabama Power Foundation to aend in-state colleges, trade or technical schools. The Class of 2021 marks the 30th consecutive year of the program that awards the children of active, retired or deceased Alabama Power employees. Now, chapters statewide are moving beyond virtual efforts to once again boost their communities in person. Powergrams also received a Platinum Hermes Award in 2019 from the international competition that annually receives about 6,000 entries, of which some 15% are rated Platinum.
