Contents SALUTING OUR VETERANS Roy Sexton's service to his country has included time at the Naval Academy, on the USS South Carolina and protecting President George W. Bush. Retiree Chuck McKellar stayed busy stateside during the Korean War testing torpedoes for his fellow sailors. Mike Tomberlin spent more than two years in Afghanistan and says good things came out of the U.S. efforts. We salute our employees, retirees and veterans who have made a difference through their sacrifices. Page 1 SAFETY Since 1985, Alabama Power employees have been presented the Presidential Award of Honor for valiant efforts to save a person's life. This year there are 17 recipients of the company's highest honor. Page 7 APSO Chapters of the Alabama Power Service Organization for two decades have supported Junior Achievement across the state. Despite the pandemic, the work of these volunteers has continued unabated. Page 9 ENERGIZERS Alabama Power's retiree volunteer organization has thrived on members geing together since the group was founded. The past two years, however, have required ingenuity to get things done. Page 11 OUR TOWN Like many small towns across America, Abbeville faced some tough times in the late 20th century. Page 22 PROFILE Ullman Williamson's 50th year with Alabama Power has included a bout with COVID-19 and being in traction for three months recuperating from a broken hip. He plans on being around the National Carbon Capture Center awhile longer. Page 25 FINANCE The Power Investors club is into its eighth decade helping employees and retirees save money. Its portfolio is now worth about $3 million. Page 29 COMMUNITY A series of murals in Enterprise depicts the southeast Alabama town's relationship with Fort Rucker, as well as economic and community growth of the 1950s and '60s.
