Contents ENVIRONMENT Alabama Power's transmission rights of way provide an optimal environment for pollinators. Company employees are aiding efforts to make life easier for insects that are crucial to food production worldwide. Page 1 TECHNOLOGY Two new communication tools are helping the company keep customers informed about power outages and when restoration is expected. More than 190,000 customers signed up for the outage alerts and all will soon be linked in. Page 2 ENERGY EFFICIENCY Just in time for The World Games 2022, the Birmingham- Jefferson Convention Complex has been renovated, thanks in large part to a $40 million project in which Alabama Power employees upgraded many crucial aspects of the facilities. Page 4 APSO The Southern Division Chapter of the Alabama Power Service Organization recently raised important funding for community organizations through the 32nd annual Charity Golf Tournament in Montgomery. Page 6 ENERGIZERS Aer two years of meeting only online, members of the Corporate Energizers in June gathered together in person at Corporate Headquarters to continue coming up with novel ways of supporting their communities. Page 8 EDUCATION Twenty-two exceptional students who are the children of active, retired or deceased Alabama Power employees have been awarded merit-based scholarships of $2,500 from the Alabama Power Foundation. Page 10 EDUCATION Cold Springs High School graduate Seth Williams is aending Wallace State Community College as the winner of the Alabama Power Foundation two-year Presidential Scholarship. He is entering general studies. Page 11 EDUCATION Recent Fairhope High School graduate Josie Howell is heading to Auburn University as the winner of the Alabama Power Foundation four-year Presidential Scholarship. She will major in biomedical engineering. Page 12 ENVIRONMENT Alabama Power biologists are working hand in hand with experts from the U.S. Forest Service to continue to help endangered creatures in and around company lakes, including the Sternotherus depressus, which lives only in Alabama. Page 14 CULTURE & INCLUSION New Alabama Power and Southern Company Services employees within the state traveled to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex to hear from leaders and learn more about the company's history and future goals. Page 18 MILESTONE Warner Paerson has worked for Alabama Power 50 years, including 28 in the Training Center at the General Services Complex in Calera. He enjoys his role helping young workers learn the ropes. Page 20 HISPANIC HERITAGE Deyse Lopez became a U.S. citizen in 2015 and joined Alabama Power's Economic Development department. She helps aract businesses to Alabama but also is a rising community leader in Birmingham and beyond. Page 22 HAPPY TRAILS Roger Yeargan spent 41 years working on major hydro projects statewide before retiring in early 2022. Alabama Media Professionals awarded the magazine first place for Publications Regularly Written – Magazine/ Magapaper. The top statewide selection advanced Powergrams to the National Federation of Press Women Professional Contest Awards in Fargo, North Dakota. Additionally, the October- December Powergrams received the Gold Hermes Creative Award for Print Media-Publications in the international competition that received about 6,500 entries. BACK ISSUES OF POWERGRAMS AVAILABLE Varying quantities of back issues of Powergrams magazine are available upon request of the editor.
