PHOTO CONTEST Picture Perfect Search on for employees' best photographs of year Back by popular demand, the Powergrams Photo Contest returns for the 17th year, offering Alabama Power employees and retirees a chance to display their artistic talents. For the second consecutive year, each amateur photographer's submission will be included in a special exhibition of the Corporate Archives Museum. The exhibit opening Oct. 14 in the 1925 Building in Birmingham will continue through Nov. 1. The contest was a popular annual feature of Powergrams from 1983 through 1996, and was renewed in 2011. Last year, more than 100 photographs were submitted from employees across the state, as well as from retired company workers. Engineer Mikel Wijayasuriya, Corporate Headquarters, won best of show last year for "Schoolgirl on Field Trip," her portrait of a girl in Sri Lanka. Deadline for 2013 photo contest entries is 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20. Employees and retirees may enter one photograph in each of four categories. The top photos will be published in Powergrams and online at the internal website Powerlines. Employees of Public Relations are ineligible. A prize will be awarded for Best of Show. The Selection Committee reserves the right to review, approve or refuse all works presented for consideration. Failure to follow the rules makes an applicant ineligible for awards. OFFICIAL RULES: • All images must be submitted on CD. • Images must be sized at 300DPI, preferably in TIFF format, but JPG is acceptable. • An Official Entry Form must be signed and accompany each CD entry. • CDs will not be returned.
