Thumbs Up! After a break of more than two years due to the pandemic, Power Delivery employees returned to host their 18th annual Clay Shoot at Selwood Farms in Alpine. During the daylong event on Oct. 18, 78 teams consisting of 300 Alabama Power employees and contractors faced off, raising $60,000 for the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. Along with the participants, 75 volunteers worked together to make the day flow smoothly. The volunteers served as trappers that launched sporting clays, registered shooters and volunteers, tallied score sheets, directed parking, distributed snacks and drinks, and arranged tables and chairs for lunch. On Nov. 10, employees stepped in for Santa at the Walmart in Gardendale, where they used the funds to shop for gifts for 250 angels. Since its first clay shoot, Power Delivery has raised $600,000 for the Salvation Army. The Magic City chapter of the Alabama Power Service Organization adopted 400 Angel Tree children for Christmas. Departments represented included Customer Service, Accounting, Engineering, Power Delivery Transmission Project Management, Finance and Corporate Planning, Research and Development, Fleet Services-Corporate Headquarters Garage, Fuel Services - Fuel Procurement, Gas Supply & Energy Trading, Wholesale Contract Services, Customer Solutions, Transmission Policy & Services, Business Development and Enterprise Technology Solutions. The Western Alabama Power Service Organization Chapter-South area hosted a supply drive for the Greene County Humane Society and raised more than $1,600. The drive was in honor of plant dog "Pup-Pup" who died in 2021. Her portrait is above the many items purchased for the Humane Society in Demopolis. APSO members donated supplies in honor of Pup-Pup. 29 The Alabama Power Foundation will award 22 academic scholarships to children of Alabama Power employees and retirees.
