Gadsden Alabama Power Service Organization members – part of Eastern Division APSO – helped build the first Habitat for Humanity home in Rainbow City. Volunteers raised the exterior and interior walls, weatherized the home, installed roof trusses and decking, and helped paper the roof. The project, led by Gadsden Market Specialist Jerry Mills, was a team effort with the GadsdenEtowah Habitat for Humanity. "We are so grateful to APSO," said Suzanne Scharfenberg, vice president of the board of directors and office manager of the Gadsden-Etowah Habitat for Humanity. "It was a great jump-start to getting this house off the ground and on schedule." Talladega APSO members partnered with the Presbyterian Home for Children to assemble welcome baskets to give new residents belongings of their own. Each basket had a Bible, linens and a stuffed animal. The Customer Service Center (CSC) was swathed in pink in October to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The CSC team saw an opportunity to emphasize annual exams and the need to protect one's health. The project was organized by Customer Services Analyst LaDonna Cotton; Customer Care Associates Carol Bibb, Michelle Bush and Janine Turner; Products and Services Representative Telra Rocker; and Business Specialist LaTrevia CSC employees boosted cancer awareness. Watters. In honor of three CSC employees who battled cancer, the center raised money to help the Joy of Life Foundation and to provide a free mammogram to a patient. "It was awesome how everyone came together to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month," Cotton said. "Employees decorated their cubicles at their own expense, in between taking customer calls." A corkboard in the work area – with sections listing "Survivors" and "In memory of " – allowed employees to post names of friends and family members who have had cancer. IN MEMORIAM Peggy W.
