The Southeast/Farley Chapter of the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) donated a new washer, dryer and refrigerator for one of the apartments at The Family Place in Birmingham. Additionally, the Miller and Western Division APSO chapters replaced appliances in the other two apartments. In one day, three customers dropped by the Daleville Office to say a special "thank you" to Michelle Anderson for coming to their aid. In one case, an Army veteran who was unable to pay his power bill had walked 6 miles round trip to the office several times to discuss the issue with Anderson. The veteran was forced to walk because he had spent his money on car repairs, but it was still inoperable. Anderson shared the man's situation with a church pastor and the church agreed to pay the majority of his bill. Robbie Martin, Corporate Headquarters, received the Stan Roberson Memorial Award from Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham for her volunteer efforts. As a high school student, Roberson was one of Martin's Junior Achievement advisers. Roberson mentored her through the curriculum that teaches business, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. "I will always remember Stan for his never-quit attitude and servant leadership," Martin said. "I believe in giving back to my community that has given so much to me. I always want to lead by example. In order to be a good leader and example, you must be an excellent servant and volunteer." A Regions Bank employee in Oneonta wrote a note thanking Lead Lineman Troy Cornelius for changing a car tire on Highway 231 in Blount County. Joyce Ware said she was traveling to church when one of the tires went flat. Despite making several phone calls, Ware was unable to reach anyone to help her. Cornelius was working nearby on a power line. "Thank God one of your employees came over to see if he could help," Ware wrote. "He was so courteous and a real life-saver … He would not let me pay him. He said I pay him every month when I pay my bill and that was part of his customer service."
