He was named The News' first senior reporter, and as editorial page editor led a project that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. allison Westlake is a communications specialist at Alabama Power. She has served on the staffs of Coastal Living and Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade magazines, with work published in Celebrate magazine and Julep, an online publication. Dan Guffey is a visual communications specialist at Alabama Power whose work has won ADDY awards, a Utilities Communicators International award as well as an appearance in Print's Regional Design Annual. He has won numerous awards for his art and photography, including the Alabama duck stamp competition in 2007 and 2011. His clients have included Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation and Bass Pro Shops. He and his wife, Barbara, live on Lake Martin. Joe Desc iose Contributing photographer A former senior photographer for Southern Living magazine, Joe DeSciose is an award-winning photographer whose images have been published in The New York Times Magazine, as well as Conde Nast, Hearst and numerous other publications. The Birmingham resident has lived in Colorado, Madrid, Barcelona and New York City. cover imaGe - Popeye has delighted generations of cartoon and comic strip fans, thanks in part to Alabama-born Tom Sims, who wrote the strip for almost two decades.
