Usrey, 64, retiree, Corporate Headquarters, April 8. The Magic City Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) team raised more than $10,000 for the Alabama Kidney Foundation. The team of 40 APSO volunteers and family members took part in the kidney foundation walk on April 5 at the Samford University soccer field. This year's event raised more than $170,000 to benefit patients and programs supported through the kidney foundation. Edna Weaver, Corporate Headquarters, and Bobby Joe Wilson, Customer Service Center-North, coordinated Team APSO. The Headland and Abbeville offices took part in the Henry County Relay for Life on April 11 and raised $1,899 for the American Cancer Society. Team members included Chere Johnson, Maegan Watford, Heather Mims, Paula Walker, Janet Money, Shane Money, David Norwood and Natalie Hodges. Paula White, Dadeville, presented Safe-T- Opolis to 56 fourth-graders at Reeltown Elementary School on March 20. The students wrote homemade cards of appreciation. On April 11, about 85 people loaded their guns and showed their skills in the Eastern Division Alabama Power Service Organization's fifth annual clay shoot near Childersburg. The event benefited the YMCA Strong Kids campaign and other charities. More than 40 APSO volunteers coordinated registration, manned the stations and cooked lunch. Chris Ritchie, Eastern Division Office, was commended for his help with the YMCA Strong Kids campaign. Maggie Owens of the YMCA said, "Chris displayed a dedication to the YMCA cause that went above and beyond the average campaigner. He worked every one of his cards and went in search of additional pledges to tackle. His attitude, perseverance and awesome generation of results made it easy to select him as Top Community Campaigner." Birmingham customer Lisa Copeland wrote to thank Carolyn Therrell, Metro South-Pelham Office, for providing excellent customer service while resolving her issue. "She was so helpful and kind on what was an awful day for me," Copeland said of Therrell. "She took care of my problem quickly and painlessly. A week later, when I thought the problem had not been resolved, she told me exactly what to do on my end to be sure everything was done. And, of course, she was right. She is the kind of person you definitely want working for you – I wish I could deal with employees like her every day."
