7 What will Southern Company and Alabama Power look like in 2020-2025? For the answer, the companies are turning to employees. All employees are encouraged to participate in an exciting new competition called "SO Prize," an opportunity to not only help the companies get ready for the future but to invent it. Now more than ever, changing customer expectations, new technologies, shifts in public policy and other factors are driving companies nationwide to anticipate and adapt to a different way of doing business. SO Prize gives employees an opportunity to critically assess the future and submit important, impactful ideas that can help the companies achieve future success. "Our company is fundamentally strong and well-positioned for the immediate future," said Alabama Power President and CEO Mark Crosswhite. "But we are not immune to a fast-changing world. Creating viable options for success through employee innovation and collaboration is what SO Prize is all about." The competition will be administered via a unique Web portal, through which employees will submit their proposals. All employees then will be free to view the submissions, provide feedback and eventually help select winners through an online voting process. At various stages of the competition, cash prizes will be awarded to individuals and/or teams whose proposals are selected by a review panel of Southern Company leaders or the votes of their fellow employees. For more information on SO Prize, visit http://sotoday.southernco.com/soprize/. SO Prize INNOVATION EMPLOYEES ENCOURAGED TO HELP INVENT THE FUTURE Any regular full or part-time employees of the Southern Company system as of June 1, 2014 are eligible to participate in SO Prize. Go to the SO Prize website, read the "View of the Future" and post comments. Beginning June 3, employees may submit ideas.
