12 Southern's auction benefits major charities Bonnie Crest Country Club was the site of Southern Division Chapter's successful annual fundraising auction in May. With Energizers State President Bob O'Daniel serving as auctioneer and host, members were able to raise "some pretty good money," Chapter Reporter John Merrick said. "Everyone brings a cake to sell," Merrick added. The chapter earned approximately $3,600 – on target toward reaching their 2013 fundraising goal. Members give to Adullam House, Shiloh Farms in Auburn and several other groups. At each meeting, members present have a chance to draw for their names, allowing the winners to give $200 to the charity they select. Western leads in meeting innovations J.G. Brazil, president of the Western Division Energizers, and his chapter officers have "energized" the membership by holding monthly meetings at unusual venues. The strategy is a positive one, Chapter Reporter Craig Burton noted, with a membership increase of about 30 percent over 2012 numbers. Rather than assembling at a restaurant, Energizers have enjoyed meetings at the Federal Courthouse in Tuscaloosa and the Mercedes-Benz International assembly plant in Vance, east of Tuscaloosa. At the courthouse, members got an unexpected treat, learning about the building's construction. Energizers were delighted at the chance to see each of the building's 16 murals, painted by Fulbright scholar Caleb O'Connor. The massive murals depict the history of Tuscaloosa and west Alabama area. In May, members toured the Mercedes plant. After lunch in the training facility, Energizers took a trek through the plant, viewing all phases of auto construction. While touring the museum, they enjoyed a look back in time, viewing many vintage cars and motorcycles. ENERGIZERS CHAPTERS ON THE MOVE, continued ...
