That's what nonprofit organizations across Alabama believe is needed to help make the state a better place to live for future generations, said Zeke Smith at the 2014 Elevate Conference in Mont- gomery Aug. 20. "You have told us you want grants to help with capacity-building to strengthen your organization. You have also said you want more opportunities to collaborate and share best practices," Smith, Alabama Power executive vice president, told the 320 representatives from 168 nonprofit organizations at- tending the conference. "So I am excited to announce the 2014 Elevate grants, which we believe will help you reach these goals." The Alabama Power Foundation, in partnership with Alabama Power's six divisions, will award 14 grants to non- profit organizations and government en- tities. The grants will focus on building relationships, and will help recipients learn how to use available funding to grow their organization. That, in turn, will benefit the communities they serve. As part of the process, grant re- cipients will take part in workshops throughout the year designed to provide additional training and guidance to help them learn to use resources more effectively. These workshops will also of- fer opportunities to share best practices, information and ideas. The foundation and the divisions will each award two $15,000 grants.
