It's really the only time we all get to come together like this throughout the year. Alabama Power has done a great job in bringing together incredible panels, particularly the one where they told us what they were looking for in grants. I can't thank Alabama Power enough for investing in what we do, not just with a check but by investing in our sustainability to help us do what we do better. AMANDA BARNES Executive Director, Demopolis City Schools Foundation In the media session, I learned that it's really im- portant to build a relationship with the media. Even though we are in a rural area, our stories might be of interest to media outlets in larger cities. We are coming up on what we call our "million dollar year," which means we have exciting stories to tell about how a town of 8,000 people can raise $1 million in endowments and annual fundraising. The session has helped me understand how to tell that story better and get it out to the rest of the state. We shouldn't feel intimidated. People want to hear what we have to say, and more likely than not, if you put your stories out there someone will want to run them. We learned valuable tips from the "fundraising guru" herself, Suzanne Durham. It's amazing how many small things you can do to make a difference in your organization. It's not rocket science; it's stuff other people are already doing. Sharing ideas at Elevate has been great.
