Volunteers from the Eastern Division Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO)-Pell City Subchapter assisted with a prom dress giveaway at the Pell City Center for Education and Performing Arts. The event provided dresses to girls who could not attend the prom without this support. APSO volunteers helped the girls choose and try on their dresses. Lee Thomas, Metro South Office, came to the aid of a person in need of a hand. When he arrived at a customer's home in response to a reconnect service order, he saw an elderly woman lying on the ground and helped her get back on her feet. The woman thanked him, saying she had been on the ground for some time and unable to get up. When Thomas returned to his truck, he noticed the woman had fallen again. He flagged down a law enforcement officer who then called 911. Thomas and the officer both remained with the woman until paramedics arrived. Patricia Entrekin, Metro Central, received a thank-you card from a customer saying she is a "wonderful and pleasant person" for providing service at the office drive-through window. The Eastern Division APSO Chapter sponsored the Calhoun County Read Across America event March 6. APSO members read the book, "The Little Blue Truck," by Alice Schertle to kindergarten students in 130 classrooms. Teachers also received a copy of the book. In addition, Pell City APSO Subchapter members took part in Read Across America in their own community. They covered all 19 kindergarten classes in the Pell City School System. Bailey McCanless, Red Rock Realty, called the Metro Central Office to commend Kellie Johnson, who handles the connects and disconnects on all properties managed by the realty company. McCanless praised Johnson for her professionalism and for always getting back to her in a timely manner. "Kellie is a joy to work with," McCanless said.
