Each grant will be for $15,000, with $10,000 awarded in 2015 and $5,000 awarded in 2016 as a challenge grant. Each grant recipient will receive an assessment by TechBridge that will provide a detailed look at their technology and a plan for the future, which is an additional $5,000 value. Consideration will be given for how the grant: • Leverages collaboration between partner resources and networks • Helps achieve organizational and financial stability, program quality and growth for the applying organization • Can be replicated • Incorporates volunteerism Reflects a different approach to engaging poverty issues. The Elevate grant application process will close on Aug. 14, 2015. Grants will be awarded in October. As part of the grant requirement, nonprofits will attend at least two capacity-building workshops between Dec. 1, 2015 and June 1, 2016. The Alabama Power Foundation was created in 1989 with an investment by shareholders. It awards more than 1,300 grants every year. Since its inception, the foundation has given more than $140 mil- lion in nonratepayer dollars through more than 20,000 grants and scholarships. In addition to its regular grants, the founda- tion has in-house grant programs that include Good Roots, Gateway, Students to Stewards, Power To Play and the Elevate grant program. It is a 501(c)4 organiza- tion that provides energy assistance funding to community action agencies that use the funds to assist clients who need help paying their energy bills. The trust covers 60 of Alabama's 67 counties and has provided $38 million in energy assistance, weatherization and special grants for disaster relief and other sup- port for organizations that aid low-income Alabamians. The Alabama Power Service organi- zation (APSo) is a nonprofit group that through volunteerism works to improve communities across Alabama Power's service territory. APSO includes more than 5,000 Alabama Power, Southern Nuclear, SouthernLINC and Southern Company Services employees and their families who volunteer in the communities in which they live.
