The power of giving In addition to its regular grants, the foundation has in-house grant programs. Here are this year's grantees: § 32 grants in 2015 § Up to six $2,500 grants per division for 1A-6A/7A schools. § Funds can be used to help start a new sports program, lower player costs, upgrade equipment or pay a coaching supplement. POweR tO PlAy In its second year, the Power To Play grant program focuses on the importance of keeping students active in sports and awards grants to high school athletic programs across the state. Once this year's finalists were announced, grant winners were selected through an online voting process, which gave communities across the state the chance to show their support for the competing schools. Shields High School – Beatrice Jemison High School Monroe County High School – Monroeville Montevallo High School Oakman High School Opelika High School South Lamar High School – Millport St. Clair County High School – Odenville Sweet Water High School Vigor High School – Prichard Williamson High School – Mobile è 2015 ReCIPIentS ç § 9 grants of $1,000 will be awarded for curriculum enhancement around environmental issues and seven grants of up to $7,500 each will be given for outdoor classrooms. § To be awarded in January StudentS tO StewARdS In early 2016, several schools and nonprofit organizations across the state will be awarded conservation education grants through the Alabama Power Foundation's "Students to Stewards" program. The grants will fund a range of projects, from outdoor classrooms, to field studies, to the pur- chase of conservation-related classroom materials. Through a competitive application process, Students to Stewards pro- vides support for educational programs designed to teach students about the importance of our state's ecosystems. The Students to Stewards grant program determined 16 grant recip- ients in December. Those grants, totaling more than $56,000, will be announced and awarded in early January. ABC tRuSt Fund In 2015, the Alabama Business Charitable Trust Fund provided more than $735,000 to over 2,800 families through its energy assistance programs. This year the trust launched a new weatherization program called Home Forward. Home Forward provided more than $50,000 through 11 grants that helped increase the energy efficiency of homes of low-income residents. Efficiency Forward, the trust's nonprofit energy assistance program, awarded 19 grants in 2015 totaling more than $174,000. Since it was started in 2007, this program has provided more than $1 million to help nonprofits become more energy efficient.
