5 a p c s hor e l i n e s.c om | 2016 Vol :1 Family and good memories. There is not much more important in life, especially if we create those good memories with our family. Cookbook author and food blogger Stacey Little, in an interview with Alabama Power's Allison Westlake, captures this family connection and shares what makes our lakes so special. "Just like food, water is a conduit for bringing family together," Little says. "I have so many good memories of my time at the lake and it's a place my family enjoys reconnecting at today." Little, author of the Southern Bite blog and cookbook, has traveled to Lake Jordan and Lake Martin his entire life, and still cherishes weekend escapes with his family. In this issue of Shorelines, Little shares his story and some of his favorite family recipes to take to the lake. Family and good memories play a key role in the Hayden High School fishing team's dominating run over the past five years. Coached by fathers of team members, the Wildcats have won the state tournament four of the past five years and are creating memories that will last a lifetime. The Cochran family, meanwhile, creates furniture that will be passed down for generations. At their award-winning Wood Studio near the shore of Smith Lake, Randy Cochran and sons Keith and Dylan craft elegant, beautiful furniture. Randy Cochran designed the Lookout Mountain rocking chair to rock his sons in when they were babies. What father or mother doesn't remember and cherish those precious moments before bedtime? Lake Martin fishing guide David Hare also creates memories – of trophy- size striped bass. Learn how Hare fishes the elusive stripers, which offer a challenge even to seasoned anglers. Also in this issue, we'll tell you about students making memories in college with help from scholarships from Mitchell, Smith and Weiss lake groups; how the family of people who love their lakes and rivers work to keep them pristine through Renew Our Rivers; and how Alabama Power works to minimize the impact of floods and drought, ensuring that we're able to continue building more memories of our times at the lake.
