Page 1 SALUTING OUR VETERANS Alabama Power employees throughout the company's 110 years have served their country in peacetime and in war. In honor of Veterans Day, we salute three retirees: Eddie Olsen, who fought in World War II; Billy Glover, a Korean War veteran; and Buford Lee, who served in the Vietnam War. Page 2 COMMUNITY Alabama Power founded Project SHARE 34 years ago to help older and disabled citizens pay their power bills. The company is joining with the Salvation Army, which replaces the Red Cross in overseeing SHARE. Page 7 PROFILES Every Sunday morning, employees statewide sing, direct, play musical instruments and fill other important roles in bringing inspired songs to their church audiences. Page 9 TARGET ZERO Through the Safe-T-Opolis miniature city, Eastern Division employees are spreading the word about safety to thousands of students in 98 schools. Page 12 APSO During the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, the Gorgas and Western Division chapters of the Alabama Power Service Organization do some of their most important annual work, ensuring happy holidays for many children and families. Page 15 ENERGIZERS Alabama Power's Energizers raise money throughout the year to be able to make Christmas dreams come true at the Southwest Regional School for the Deaf and the Blind. Page 19 OUR TOWN Columbiana in Alabama Power's Birmingham Division is the seat of government for Shelby County, with many modern offices and businesses alongside a downtown dominated by buildings more than a century old. Page 21 OUR TOWN SIDEBAR Andrew and Diane Moore have spent decades buying and restoring historic buildings in Shelby County. They now live in the Columbiana Inn, where they welcome visitors to six guestrooms. Page 27 PROFILE Selina Lee is the 2016 Outstanding Alumni Volunteer for the University of Alabama College of Engineering. She's also the Distribution general manager of the Eastern Division. Page 31 HYDRO On Dec. 31, 1926, Martin Dam began producing electric power for the people of Alabama. Upon completion, it was the highest dam in the state and the company's biggest construction project, which created the largest man- made lake in the world. Page 35 HISTORY James Mitchell's 1911 journey to Alabama marked the beginning of organized economic development in the state, as the visionary engineer plotted a course to turn falling water into an industrial boom.
