CONTENTS ASSISTANCE Hundreds of Alabama Power employees and contractors spent weeks restoring power aer hurricanes in August, September and October, traveling to Texas, back to Alabama, on to Georgia, Florida and back home again. Page 1 SALUTING VETERANS Alabama Power employees throughout the company's history have served their country in peacetime and in war. In honor of Veterans Day, we salute retiree Charles Gilliland, who fought in World War II; retiree Willis Teel, who served in the Vietnam War; Rick Pickern, who guarded nuclear missiles; and Denise Richardson, whose 34 years of service included the Gulf War. Page 5 APSO The Western Division Chapter of the Alabama Power Service Organization made sure Westside Elementary School teachers and students in Demopolis got to "drive the Cadillac" when the kindergarten classes returned to school this year. Page 11 ENERGIZERS Gaston Energizers Chapter members Sharon and Lane Ross go above and beyond to make sure children at Wilsonville Elementary School have satisfying meals on the weekends. Page 13 CLEAN ENERGY Heavy rains this year have been a blessing for Alabama Power's 14 hydro facilities, increasing generation while providing benefits to wildlife, fishermen and lake residents. Page 15 COMMUNITY The Alabama Business Charitable Trust Fund for 25 years has provided temporary assistance to people who are disabled, have become unemployed or are facing crisis situations that prevent them from paying their energy bills. Page 17 HISTORY The Alabama Power Corporate Archives contains thousands of items that have been gathered from 111 years of the company serving Alabama. The Archives was established in 1994 and is housed in the 1925 Building in Birmingham. Page 19 HONORS Alabama Power Distribution engineers play prominent roles in the most prestigious rule-seing and governing bodies of the electric utility industry. Page 23 CLEAN ENERGY The Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant near Dothan began supplying power to Alabama Power customers in 1977, and for 40 years has provided clean, safe, affordable and reliable electricity.
