27 T here's a lile-known or advertised company highlight on the eighth floor of Alabama Power's Corporate Headquarters. "My guess is because it has been moved around so much," said Emily Gowens, Research Services associate. "A lot of people who knew about the library when it was on the mezzanine, and even knew when it moved, have probably since retired. There's really no one to pass on the word and say, 'Hey, we have a library that can probably help you with that.'" The Research Services Library offers database services, access to magazines and books, and a host of reference and reading materials that belie the quiet, unassuming location in the rarely-traveled western end of the north tower. "We may not be known by all," adds Research Specialist Lisa Mitchell. "But those who do, utilize our services frequently. We are much more than a library. We provide research and vital information for our industry." An overview of what Research Services offers: • Database research on people, companies and industries. • Copyright help with speeches, projects, meetings and presentations. • Dun & Bradstreet credit reports for businesses; demographic research. • Email alerts to inform employees about current events. • Books about hiring, firing and retiring. • Engineering reference books, including ones from the Institute of Electrical Engineering, and study materials for engineering exams. • Technical materials on computer programming, Windows programs and soware. • Business, career development and leadership books, including titles by Stephen Covey, John Maxwell and Andy Andrews. • A reference collection, including company directories and histories, electric utility reports and directories, ASM International handbooks and electric safety codes. • Audiobooks, DVDs, videotapes and travel materials. • A book cart where employees may take what they want at no charge.
