48 Prichard Office Manager Clinton Johnson was named Volunteer of the Year by the United Way of Southwest Alabama. The highest honor given to a United Way volunteer, the award recognizes extraordinary leadership and commitment to community service. Johnson is on the Mobile County Commiee for United Way. He has been an Alabama Power loaned executive and is a past member of the Clarke County commiee. Birmingham Division employees took part in Operation Reveille, a one-day housing blitz benefiting homeless veterans. During the event at the United Way Office of Central Alabama, veterans were provided permanent housing as well as other necessities to help them get a fresh start in their new homes. At their booth, Birmingham Division volunteers helped the veterans complete paperwork for seing up electric service, and gave them each a gi basket filled with dishes, silverware and towels. The volunteers included Natalie Bailey, West Jefferson, Brian Sules, North Jefferson, James Hardy and Tori Harris, both of Metro Central, and Jennifer Roland, Southern Linc. The Gorgas Chapter of the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) donated a much-needed washer and dryer to the Youth Advocate Program in Jasper. The nonprofit organization provides safe, affordable services to youths and families involved in state Child Welfare, Juvenile Justice, Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, Education and Adult systems. The Eastern Division APSO Chapter donated 56 bike helmets, along with 25 reflectors, to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Alabama. The accessories, along with bicycles donated by another organization, were presented to youths served by Big Brothers Big Sisters at the recent CAKE (Confident Active Kids Engaging) Day. The Southeast Division/Farley APSO Chapter partnered with the Phenix City Office to host its second senior citizens prom for residents of Phenix City Healthcare. To prepare for the occasion, the women were helped with special hair styles and makeup. Men and women donned formal wear for the aernoon event, which featured a Hollywood theme, complete with a red carpet and a "Walk of Stars." The residents and their families enjoyed upbeat music and refreshments served by Alabama Power employees. The event ended with the crowning of the prom king and queen.
