13 "Tilby has always loved school," Shannon said. "She has been a good student forever and always made good grades. You never had to put pressure on her to do her homework. You didn't have to help her much with anything because she always did it herself." Tilby's hard work indeed shows. Her extracurricular activities while at Chilton County High School included National Honor Society president, yearbook staff editor, Historical Society secretary, FOCUS vice president, and member of the Student Government Association (SGA), National Beta Club and Physics Club. Tilby received the Linda Ellison Calculus Award, Horace Smith Science Award and Academic Letter Club Award, and was voted Most Intellectual in Who's Who. Tilby has volunteered in her community as part of the SGA. She helped with food drives, Special Olympics and field days at a nearby elementary school, and served dinners at the seniors center. Tilby said her best memories revolve around her six years on the dance team during middle and high school. "I lived and breathed dance," said Tilby, who was captain of her team. "I will always remember performing on the football field below the lights on Friday nights." Tilby spent last summer in Clanton working at Rustic Relics antique shop and hanging with friends. She often heads to Lake Mitchell for water skiing and tubing. During her downtime, the teen paints or creates "something crafty." A planner at heart, she likes nothing better than organizing office supplies, like files and labels. Clint said he is grateful to Alabama Power for making a reality of his daughter's longtime dream to attend Auburn. Since she first visited the campus in the fifth grade to take part in a science Olympiad, there has been no other college for her. "I can't say thank you enough for helping me start my future and explore my options," Tilby said. "Knowing that all my studying has paid off is very rewarding. This scholarship will open doors for me. And who knows? Maybe I'll work at Alabama Power one day." Alabama Power President and CEO Mark Crosswhite presented the scholarship to Tilby at a luncheon in Corporate Headquarters. Her name is listed with past scholarship winners on a plaque, displayed in the atrium. Crosswhite gave her several pieces of luggage, noting they will come in handy as she travels the road between Auburn and home. "I want to congratulate Tilby and her entire family," Crosswhite said. "Tilby, we are proud of you and what you have accomplished. It's young people like you who are our future." Crosswhite congratulates Presidential Scholar. CFO Phil Raymond shakes Tilby Miller's hand.
