20 The new year in Mobile will kick off the 2019 anniversary celebration. The Alabama bicentennial will sponsor a Resolution Wall on New Year's Eve, where people may post personal resolutions, and the commission will post resolutions for Alabama. Discussing the campaign, Feltus can't hide her excitement. "Mobile was founded in 1702 and is the oldest city in the state," she said. "There's a lot of history in our state – it's been quite something to be involved in. The bicentennial is an opportunity to explore our places, honor our people and share our stories and the rich history of the great state of Alabama." Admiing she is one of her home state's biggest fans, Feltus looks forward to showcasing Alabama for the world. "We have such a diverse, natural beauty in Alabama, with the deltas, the mountains and the beautiful, white sands of the Gulf of Mexico," she said. When friends ask whether Feltus is nervous about her new, high-profile role, she assures them she's well-prepared for the task, thanks to her career at Alabama Power. "Throughout the years, I have worked with many very smart, talented, gied and wonderful people," Feltus said. "I had jobs that were very hands-on. When you've had wonderful activities and maximized those experiences in learning, you set your priorities and then try to do the best you can." She calls the chance to take part in Alabama's bicentennial a "life-changing blessing." "I wouldn't have ordinarily met so many people," Feltus said. "I'm on the winning end of all of this." Her values have served her well in her dealings with others. "I believe that people don't really care how much you know, but people really remember how you make them feel," Feltus said. She believes those who give of themselves are blessed. "I am proud to be an Alabamian," Feltus said. "We have so much going for us. It's a beautiful place to live, and we have the very best people you will find anywhere, right here. I am very grateful for God's gis and all my many blessings." By Donna Cope Mobile Senior Director of Civic Engagement Michon Trent, Mobile City Councilman Fred Richardson and Feltus work on the Mobile Bicentennial.
