8 DECEMBER Four nonprofits were selected to receive resources to address needs in their communities through Elevate grants from the Alabama Power Foundation. Elevate provides support through funding for community projects, capacity-building workshops and networking opportunities. The 2018-2019 recipients are One Place Metro Alabama Family Justice Center in Birmingham; Police Athletic League in Tuscaloosa; United Way of Southwest Alabama in Mobile; and Storybook Farm in Opelika. Each receives a $17,500 grant. "Through these Elevate grants, we empower organizations to serve and, in turn, they help strengthen our communities," said Myla Calhoun, president of the foundation. "By partnering with these organizations, we're able to address some of the community's most pressing needs."
