9 Together, employees can make a difference by Whitney Massey F or more than a century, Alabama Power employees have cultivated a culture that all take pride in sustaining. In an evolving industry landscape, the company must harness the strengths and talents of all employees, working to continuously protect and strengthen its culture. In 2018, the Council on Culture and Inclusion (CCI) was established to identify areas of excellence and opportunities for improving the culture — focusing on what fosters employees' growth and company success. The council works to help ensure that the culture at Alabama Power is the best it can be — built on inclusion, respect and fairness for all employees. Throughout its first year, the council established a mission, outlined specific objectives and designated areas of focus. Serving on the core CCI are Jeff Peoples, senior vice president of Employee Services & Labor Relations; Quentin Riggins, senior vice president of Governmental and Corporate Affairs; Alexia Borden, senior vice president and general counsel; Myla Calhoun, vice president of Charitable Giving and president of the Alabama Power Foundation; and Scott Moore, senior vice president of Power Delivery. CCI subcommittees, comprised of more than 30 leaders from across the company, are tasked with exploring specific areas affecting culture including: Employee Count and Representation, Diversity and Inclusion, Discipline and Concerns, Talent and Leadership Development, and Enterprises and Events. In its first year, more than 1,700 employees representing the diversity of the company were invited to participate in CCI events across the state. These events served as opportunities to introduce the mission and priorities of the CCI and encourage open discussion about company culture. Through surveys following the events, opinions and ideas were shared and the employees' voices helped shape CCI's strategy. When outlining its path forward, the CCI committed to a strategy that celebrates the diversity of Alabama Power's employees and the distinct value they bring, provides opportunity for employee connection and contribution, and responds to the evolving landscape of our company and communities.
