It's all about building a better Alabama." Calhoun, a member of the Council of Culture and Inclusion, affirmed the role APSO members play in the company culture. "Our APSO members bring diverse approaches and passion to their service projects and their company responsibilities," Calhoun said. "Those characteristics make our culture stronger." Recognizing APSO leaders During the annual APSO state meeting, 2018 chapter presidents were honored, including Kevin Lynch, Barry; Varnestra Jones, Eastern Division; Melissa Williamson, Plant Gaston; Dion Oliver, Plant Gorgas; Wilbur Johnson, Magic City; Richard Boles, Plant Miller; Erin Delaporte, Mobile Division; Jake Taylor and Jessica Gressett, Southeast-Farley; Edaine Wilson, Southern Division; and Adam Tipps, Western Division. The chapters named their 2018 Volunteer of the Year: Amanda Lofton, Barry; Casandra Maudsley, Eastern; Justin Bailey, Gaston; Becky Cannon, Gorgas; Billy Sanford, Magic City; Tina Valles, Miller; Carol Birdwell, Mobile; Kami Nesmith, Southeast-Farley; Melinda Emfinger, Southern; and Susan McKinney, Western. Chapter spirit awards went to Danny Bolerjack, Barry; Jeffrey Harris, Eastern; Louise Duncan, Gaston; Michael Sharer, Gorgas; Felecia Little, Magic City; Tracy Pope, Miller; Johnetta Jackson, Mobile; Sheri Gaddy, Southeast-Farley; Michael Magouyrk, Southern; and Tracy Kelly, Western. Gaston received the Outstanding Member Participation Award for having the most volunteer hours. Barry took home the Membership Growth Award for having the greatest percentage increase in membership. Barry and Mobile chapters received the Award of Excellence for their contributions to community service consistent with APSO's mission. Southern Division received the Community Spirit Award for the greatest percentage increase in volunteer hours. Mobile Division Customer Service Manager Delaporte won the prestigious Patsy Topazi Award for outstanding leadership and exhibiting the spirit of APSO. Leading the charge in 2019 Cooner said he is awed by the variety of ways APSO's 10 chapters help others and the impact they make in their areas. "We're the heart, hands and feet of Alabama Power, serving in our communities to help empower other's dreams," he said. "We are going to have an exciting year as we help those in need in our communities." Delaporte Organization leaders gathered for annual conference. APSO volunteers assembled hygiene donations. 21
