JASPER ENERGIZERS' BOOTH
STAYS YOUNG BY HELPING OTHERS
BY DONNA COPE
Volunteering and helping others come
naturally to Doug Booth.
It's not unusual for Booth's neighbors to
call for help with their electrical wiring, for
instance.
"If someone has electrical problems,
I'll go handle that for them," said Booth,
who retired from Alabama Power with 39
years of service. "I try to help people in
the neighborhood and at the First Baptist
Church of Jasper."
Through the years, he's done the
wiring and carpentry on four Habitat for
Humanity homes.
"I try to help out older people," the
octogenarian said. "Staying active is one
way I stay young."
Booth said that becoming a member
of Energizers, the company's charitable
group for retirees, revived his sense of
purpose after retirement. In 1996, Booth
retired from Plant Miller as superintendent
of Chemical and Results, after serving as
assistant superintendent of Performance
and Controls at Plant Gorgas. Earlier, he
was a lab technician at Plant Barry.
