12 APSO administrative assistant - Community Initiatives. "There were so many people, you could equate the foot and car traffic to the crowd at a college football game. People were so excited to be there, and everyone was really enjoying taking part in the event." Christina Jackson's daughters, 14-year-old Maie and 9-year-old Lexie, helped cut bananas, oranges and apples for the riders. Her husband made sure that bikers had water. "My girls loved it," she said. "They were being lile worker bees. I got tickled seeing my 9-year-old giving fraternity members directions on how to make Gatorade. My girls thought it was awesome. They'd clap and cheer for the riders as they came by." The family handed out cups of pickle juice and mustard packets to the bikers to prevent muscle cramps. Jackson said that the spirit of camaraderie will bring her family back to future events. "I went to Providence and worked for storm relief in April," she said. "Knowing this was all for such a great cause and, ultimately, is something that gives back to our people in need, makes you want to help." Magic City APSO member Nicole Hedrick took part in the 20-mile ride with her fiancée, Jordan Grove. Hedrick, who ran in an Ironman competition in Florida six months earlier, was ready for the challenge. "It was to help a good cause," said Hedrick, Business Process Team leader, Compliance - Power Delivery. "I was excited to help out any way that I could. Giving back to our state is a good thing." Sharon Meier, who has twice ridden in the 20-mile bike event, just wanted to help. Aer the 2018 ride, she decided to put her photography hobby to work, and this year volunteered her talents for the Bo Bikes Bama website. Meier arrived early on Friday to photograph the participant dinner and silent auction, and took hundreds of shots during the ride. "Most importantly, I was at the finish line to catch people's reactions and see their sense of Hedrick and Grove at finish.
