16 At the annual Energizers Leadership Conference in Praville in April, the Corporate Chapter won two state awards, taking honors for the greatest increase in volunteerism and the largest increase in membership. In 2018, members volunteered for 7,855 hours and the chapter gained 60 new members. "Our goal was to have 300 members on our rolls," Horne said. "We have 327 folks, so we actually increased our membership by 22 percent. Our percentage goal was 12.5 percent. I'm happy with what we accomplished." Horne said the success is owed to the Corporate Chapter board, which expanded from nine to 12 members this year. "We've got a wonderful board of really strong people," Horne said. "They've taken our mission to heart and have done a great job." The first Energizers chapter to officially appoint a communications director, Horne in January tapped Andy Sheppard, who retired from the Southern Company Trading Floor, for the new role. Judy Moore is the 2020 incoming president. "Starting next year, Energizers will have a system in place to email our members instead of mailing invitations for the quarterly meetings," Horne said. Horne said he's proud of the Energizers' volunteerism in their communities. In May, several Corporate Energizers helped special- needs children fish at the Exceptional Anglers event at Oak Mountain State Park. Corporate members are planning their annual auction in August at Corporate Headquarters, in partnership with the Magic City Chapter of the Alabama Power Service Organization. "Our auction is our primary fundraiser, so it's very important," he said. The Corporate Chapter's quarterly meetings regularly draw 100 aendees as Horne works to pull in interesting speakers.
