20 help us better serve our customers, as together we work to elevate Alabama." ALABAMA-BASED APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS SEE SUCCESS Developing a workforce pipeline of diverse perspectives and job-ready skills is a priority for Alabama Power in its mission to elevate the state. Having employees skilled in craft trades is essential for business operations. Through collaboration with NABTU, Alabama Power is providing training opportunities to prepare workers, particularly veterans and those from underrepresented communities, for registered building trade apprenticeships. Apprenticeship Readiness Programs (ARPs) give students hands-on training and educational services that introduce union crafts and the construction industry before students select a specific trade. These programs develop plumbers, electricians, ironworkers and other skilled professionals to propel growth in the state and provide contract workers for companies, such as Alabama Power. "The Apprenticeship Readiness Program is amazing," said Lydia Griffin, ARP graduate. "It really opened my eyes to careers I never knew existed. I realized the benefits that the building trades can offer, and it's made me really excited for my future career." Two Alabama- based ARPs that have realized success this year are Jefferson State Community College and Lawson State Community College. These efforts have become a standard that NABTU hopes to replicate across the country. To promote workforce development through ARPs, Crosswhite was named NABTU spokesman for its upcoming national public relations campaign. "I'm honored to join forces with NABTU leadership and the millions of skilled tradespeople," said Crosswhite. "Investing in our local communities through educational resources like the Apprenticeship Readiness Program helps develop the highly skilled workforce we need."
