22
rural commiee meetings were impressive, and
the motivation to see growth opportunities for
the rural parts of Alabama is gaining significantly,"
Murphy said.
His duties as president fell under four categories:
Choosing chairpersons and monitoring the status
of commiees; maintaining relationships with
EDAA sponsors; overseeing the finances of the
group; and helping the board of directors guide the
organization.
"Being part of a strong, commied staff and board
of directors was extremely satisfying," he said. "The
membership really got involved this year with our
commiees and support of important legislation.
In addition, we had record aendance at both our
winter and summer conferences."
Now that Murphy's presidential run has ended,
he won't take his bat and ball and go home. He
remains on the board of directors as past president
until 2021.
As he continues his day job at Alabama Power
recruiting industry, one comment from the state's
top economic developer, Canfield, should bring
Murphy a sense of satisfaction and encouragement
for continuing in his chosen profession:
"Throughout his career, Patrick has been a
champion for economic development causes, and
his contributions are helping us bring new jobs
home to Alabama."
