44 20 20 C olin MacGuire is a commanding presence wherever he goes. Decked out in Crimson Tide gear, he's a stranger to no one in Greenville and to few people in Tuscaloosa. "Hey, big man!" he says entering the Alabama Grill, where everyone within reach shakes his hand, pats his back or has a good word. "Hey, wild man! Roll Tide, Bill!" His T-shirt reads "Alabama Crimson Tide … Enough Said," but that's not true. For MacGuire, there's never an end to the talk about his beloved alma mater. He hosts a weekday morning sports program "Talkin' Sports with Big C" on WGYV 1380 AM radio, broadcasts for an hour on Facebook, hosts the High School Scoreboard Show on Q-94 and can be seen on YouTube as "Alabama's Biggest Fan." The Greenville native was a Fort Dale Academy class favorite before moving on to the University of Alabama in 1977, where he continued his sports efforts of previous years. He was a manager of the wrestling team the year it disbanded, then hit his big break by moving to football in 1978. "The two years I was with them we went back to back," he says wearing a 1979 national championship ring. "So, my timing was pretty good." In 1980, MacGuire was initiated into the A Club "in recognition of Outstanding Achievement in Athletics." The plaque was signed by club president Keith Pugh, Director of Athletics Paul Bryant and university President David Mathews.
