Although the FLW pro circuit had a tournament this year on Lake Martin, to Canterbury's chagrin there are no Elite events on APC lakes in 2020. "Alabama Power lakes have been good to me over the years," said the Odenville resident who lives less than 20 miles from Lake Logan Martin. "I fish them all. They're my favorite lakes." This year, big fishing tournaments have continued despite the pandemic. The regional Central Division Bassmaster championship is Oct. 22-24 on Neely Henry Lake; and the 2020 College Classic Bracket is at Lay Lake Nov. 17-19. Lake Martin hosted an FLW pro tournament in March and Neely Henry hosted an FLW pro Toyota Series tournament in September. All-American Angler Logan Parks is fishing on Lake Martin when his cellphone rings. If the Auburn native isn't in class or studying, his most likely locale is a lake. "Out of a year, I probably spend a third on the water fishing," said Parks, who is president of the Auburn University Bass Fishing Club. "I grew up fishing with my granddad," said the 22-year- old who helped Auburn win the 2019 Major League Fishing College Redcrest National Championship in Wisconsin. Eight years ago, he caught his biggest fish, an 11-pound largemouth bass, on his grandfather's pond, and promptly organized a fishing team at Auburn High School. At Auburn University, Parks' team has won the Iron Bowl of fishing and he's had prominent finishes in Bassmaster college tournaments, such as in February when Parks and Cody Griffin Early morning anglers pass Duncan Bridge.
