6 Membership in Southern Division APSO has provided Broderick Smith leadership opportunities. Smith, field service representative - Montgomery Customer Service, has been a chapter chair, vice president and president of Southern APSO. He will be APSO State board president in 2022. "It's given me leadership skills and networking opportunities," Smith said. "I really enjoy helping the communities, the camaraderie and teamwork. "APSO isn't just a company organization – we all come together, no maer what department you work in," he said. "Involving the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, geing union folks involved in APSO, has been one of the beer transitions in the past few years." Smith was thrilled when Southern APSO won a skit contest at the 2018 APSO Convention, allowing the group to donate to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Laurel Crawford, president of the Plant Farley/ Southeast Chapter, has been involved in APSO since 2019. "As a Southern Nuclear employee, it means a lot to me to be able to give back to the communities we serve alongside our peers from Alabama Power," said Crawford, internal communications lead at Farley. "I enjoy seeing the passion for serving in our chapter members, and it makes me proud to be a part of the Southern Company family. Because of COVID-19, we were unfortunately not able to take APSO volunteers helped clean Five Mile Creek in 2007.
