3 Birmingham CrossPlex will host swimming and track events for the World Games 2022. "These are the best athletes in the world in their respective sports, and this is going to be a huge event going on for a full two weeks in our city." In addition to the sports events, the fan experience will provide Birmingham with 14 days of events, delicious food and drinks and a live concert series representing many music genres and featuring a to-be- announced lineup of A-list performers. With that in mind, Porter highlighted the crucial need for volunteers – at least 4,000 – to ensure Birmingham provides the highest level of service needed to host the World Games. "The saying is 'To whom much is given, much will be required,' and we need folks to volunteer to serve as ambassadors of goodwill for the city, the state and the company," Porter said. "This is such a huge event, and we need everyone engaged and ready to showcase our city." Details are being developed for the role of Alabama Power employee and retiree volunteers. Information for those interested in participating will be available through APSO and Energizers.
