9 Human Resources Delivery Business Partner Ashlee Swindle said she volunteered "to be a part of history." She worked eight hours scanning tickets at the Hoover Met for the softball competition. "Who would've thought The World Games would be hosted right here in Birmingham, Alabama?" asked the former Auburn University pitcher (2016- 2020). Swindle had time to meet with former Tigers right fielder Alyssa Rivera, who was a member of the Puerto Rico softball team. Rivera is a bridesmaid in Swindle's Nov. 12 wedding. "The best memory of TWG is when I was blessed to watch USA softball play against Japan in the championship game for the gold medal," said Swindle, who has worked at Alabama Power for two years. "I love playing and watching softball. It was fantastic to watch some of the girls I competed against in college play for the championship game for the USA team and take home the gold." Distribution Engineer Dylan Jordan volunteered 18 hours, mostly outside of normal working hours, serving at Protective Stadium, Birmingham-Southern College and Sloss Furnaces. "During the Opening Ceremony, I was a field usher that lined the walkway as the athletes from each country were introduced," said Jordan, who was a student employee for two years and has been full time for more than a year. "During the handball event, I was a 'ball boy' who retrieved balls as they left the field of play. For the bouldering event, I worked the VIP tent, which included setting up and standing by to complete tasks to help everything go smoothly." Jordan volunteered to help ensure the success of the Games for Birmingham and Alabama, "while the world's eyes were all focused on us." He most enjoyed the drone show on the first night. "It was also cool being in the BJCC (Birmingham- Jefferson Convention Complex) before the opening ceremony started as the athletes arrived, because of their excitement and enthusiasm," he said. "There was an emcee announcing the countries as they arrived and a majority of the countries would come in chanting or singing." Gaston Steam Plant Appliance Serviceman Jordan Hall volunteered for 25 hours during the Games, with most of his time spent transporting foreign VIPS and officials to and from venues, hotels and events. "I was pretty much their tour guide," said Hall, who has worked at Alabama Power for six years. "It's not every day you get the opportunity to serve others at an event like The World Games," he said.
