In 2021, Westwater Resources announced plans to build
a first-of-its-kind advanced graphite processing plant in
Alabama, making the state home to the first large-scale
producer of refined graphite in the U.S. The Kellyton
graphite processing plant is currently under construction
with commercial production planned for Q1 2026.
In addition, Westwater plans to mine raw graphite in
western Coosa County in part of what is known as the
"Alabama Graphite Belt." The Coosa graphite deposit is the
largest source of domestic U.S. natural flake graphite in the
contiguous U.S.
Westwater Resources is positioned to be the first vertically-
integrated natural graphite anode material supplier in the U.S.
