Where does the help
come from when large
outages occur?
Thunderstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes – and occasional ice storms – are
a way of life in Alabama. When power is disrupted, Alabama Power has a
time-tested method for getting the lights on quickly.
We dispatch bucket trucks and line repair crews from unaffected areas to
impacted parts of the state. In larger power outages, we get help from our
sister companies under the Southern Company umbrella: Mississippi Power,
Gulf Power and Georgia Power.
For even larger events, like hurricanes and a rare big ice storm, we have
mutual assistance agreements with other power companies around the
United States. They send reinforcements to help us, and we return the favor
by sending crews to other states in their time of need.
