Thumbs Up! Gadsden Steam Plant and Hydro Generation teamed to take part in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Birmingham. Their 25-member team, the Plant Gadsden/Hydro Rocks and Runs, raised $875. The team captain was Tracie Hill. Transformer Shops employees at the General Services Complex put their throwing arms to the test by facing off in a cornhole tournament. They raised $910 for the Shelby County Department of Human Resources. The funds will be used to buy Christmas gifts for needy children. Six teams competed in the event. The winners were Zach Pemberton and Michael Ellison, who made up the team "Y U Mad." The runner-up team was the Underdogs, Heath Smith and Bubba Hicks. Other competitors included Alan Swann, Sam Green, Darren Bailey, Ron Boyd, Dwayne Hughes, Ryan Ivey, Otis Jones, Greg Minor, Wilby Owens, Chris Pardue, Steven Woods, Chris Wiley, Brandi Marling, Cody Hubbard, Robin Nelson, Alan Moseley and Jason Brasington. Mark Goddard, of the Army Corps of Engineers, wrote to commend Field Service Representative Jermaine Scott, Tuscaloosa, for going the extra mile to return a lost item. A hydrographic river surveyor with the Corps recently lost his SouthernLINC radio phone on a road near Fosters. Scott found the phone and located the owner by dialing the last number in the call list. Although the Corps offered to send someone to meet him, Scott returned the phone to the Corps office on his way to Tuscaloosa. "We are very grateful for Mr. Scott's efforts and his good deed today," said Goddard. "As I thanked Mr. Scott, I told him that his actions and efforts reflect well on his personal character and that of all Alabama Power employees." 31
