Thumbs Up! Volunteers from the Magic City Chapter of the Alabama Power Service Organization were among several APSO groups serving on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Led by project coordinator Keith Chandler, 13 volunteers and family members spent their morning at Kids First Awareness in Alabaster, helping with landscaping, painting, laying pavers and building a fence. Southeast Division/Plant Farley APSO participated in projects in Barbour County: painting at the Boys and Girls Clubs, cleaning and renovating at Eufaula Daycare, landscaping at Eufaula High School, trash pickup at Yoholo Micco Trail/Admiral Moorer Middle School, beautification at Twelve Stones Garden, organic gardening at Eufaula Preschool and at Eufaula Primary School. The project was led by Michelle Anderson. Eastern Division APSO helped host an MLK Community Breakfast Celebration at the Anniston Meeting Center. APSO volunteers prepared and served breakfast to participants. Keisha Chapman helped lead the project. Magic City APSO sponsored two events: Along with Village Creek Human & Environmental Justice Society and YouthServe, APSO volunteers partnered to clean debris from seven locations. The project was led by Tiffany Gustin. Bill Pockstaller led a group of volunteers at the MLK Parade in Montevallo. Southern Division APSO volunteers were greeters for a citywide MLK celebration at Davis Theatre. Marina Dobbs, Metro South- Pelham, had the highest number of paperless billing sales in 2015 among Birmingham Division customer service representatives. Dobbs finished the year with 312 paperless billing sales. The customer service representatives were challenged to promote paperless billing to customers. Faythanial Jackson, a Phenix City customer, called Alabama Power to commend Myah Chancellor, North Residential Center, for the exceptional service she provided. "The representative who answered my call is so intelligent, very mannerable and did a beautiful job assisting me," said Jackson. "If anybody deserves a pat on the back, it is Myah. I am so proud that you all hired her to assist us when we are in a time of need. Again, thank you all. I love my Alabama Power." A customer called to thank Lisa Roberts, Valley Office, for staying late on Friday evening to make sure she had hot water in time for the weekend. Johnna Nelson needed a new hot water heater because her old one was leaking and could not be repaired. Roberts, customer service representative, was asked to assist Nelson because the merchandise salesperson was not in the office that day. When Nelson came to the office at the end of the workday with the paperwork for the hot water heater, Roberts stayed to take care of the request. When the paperwork was completed, Nelson had no one to help her load the hot water heater into her vehicle. Roberts' son, who had arrived at the office, stepped in and helped load the water heater. Nelson later called to salute Roberts for "going above and beyond the call of duty." 43 Employees volunteer in their communities each year in celebration of MLK Day.
