"The work they are doing and
the impact they are making
reaches far beyond what they
do during the summer months,"
said Susie Harris, manager of
Alabama Power's Greensboro
Office. "They are making a lasting
impact on this community and
I hope this grant will help them
continue their mission for many
years to come."
Like the rich soil in the Black
Belt, Sawyerville Day Camp and
the Yellowhammer Learning
Program are ripe for growth. SDC
officials dream of a permanent
space in Greensboro to call home,
and there is talk of expanding YLP
to more grade levels and adding a
college prep component.
"This entire program was born
out of the question, 'What if ?' So,
when I think about where YLP
will be next year, in two years, in
five years, in 10 years, it is almost
hard to even wrap my head around
the thought," said Andrew Cotten.
"Anything could happen at this
rate. Like I said, 'What if ?' is a
powerful question."
The Boys & Girls Club of West Alabama-Greensboro hosts YLP each summer.
