34 "To see a recipient like the Sheriffs Girls Ranch in Camp Hill be awarded an Efficiency Forward grant is a great example of matching a program the ABC Trust has with a need in the local community," Griffin said. In 2016, 25 ABC Trust Fund grants totaling $241,746 were awarded to nonprofits across Alabama. Since 2007, the trust has provided 165 grants totaling more than $1.4 million. Efficiency Forward allows Alabama Power to share the importance of energy efficiency while supporting deserving nonprofits. The energy-efficiency measures have made a big difference in the monthly bills for the ranch. Harmon said another lasting benefit from the Efficiency Forward grant is the relationships that were built. "Trey and all the people from Alabama Power were awesome to work with. I built relationships and they have followed up with us and our vendors to make sure everything is working," Harmon said. "Having someone from Alabama Power involved in the process means he has equity in the ranch and wants to see it succeed, and that's what it's about. "You have a company that's helping, but more importantly you have a company that is pouring its resources into this place," he said. "It's not only Alabama Power, it's the employees. It speaks to the great culture of the company that their employees are this invested in their communities." Girls work in the ranch stables after school and on weekends. Three houses with host parents provide a healthy family atmosphere for 17 girls.
