Go green with Alabama Power James Bosarge, Records and Information Management specialist, Corporate Headquarters, and Josh Petty, distribution system operator, Eastern Division Operations Center, won for their idea, "Energy-efficient Material and Green Energy Sales and Services through Alabama Renewables." They envision the creation of a group called Alabama Renewables, which would be responsible for the sales, installation and maintenance of energy-efficient products and services for residential and commercial customers. "There are already a lot of customers who care about clean energy and becoming more energy-efficient, so why not position ourselves at the forefront of the market by helping them get what they want," Bosarge said. "They trust our reputation and know we back our products. It just makes sense to help them find the green energy solutions that best meet their needs." Bosarge and Petty said Alabama Power already provides customers with advice on how to become more energy-efficient. Their idea is to take that process to the next level. The company can increase revenue and cement customer relationships by selling and servicing energy- efficient products such as solar panels, geothermal heat pumps, windows, LED lighting and insulation. The group would begin by conducting energy reviews, or checkups, for residential and commercial customers. Alabama Power could then offer financing, rebates and other incentives to encourage customers to purchase energy- efficient products and services from the company or from approved third-party vendors. "Clean energy sales are close to a billion-dollar industry with no sign of slowing in the future," Bosarge said. "If implemented, my idea will provide a gateway into the industry by leveraging our trusted name combined with our excellent service." Give the people what they want "My Business by Alabama Power," submitted by Dennis Jones, engages commercial customers by using digital technology and data analytics to offer a more personalized experience. Jones' idea involves modifying existing Alabama Power programs and services to better meet the needs of commercial customers. A good start, he said, is to revise the Alabama Power website to promote company products, provide energy tips, and offer support and information designed specifically for various businesses such as churches, restaurants, offices and hospitals. Jones proposes expanding the reach of the company's new Home Services program, which refers customers to service providers that repair HVAC products, and AllConnect, a company partner that helps new homeowners sign up for their utilities with one call, to include commercial customers. These services are currently offered only in the residential market. Weekley, Padilla, Petty and Bosarge, Jones INNOVATION
